Kopibing: An Accidental Discovery

I stumbled upon Kopibing, located inside Eslite, Starhills in Bukit Bintang, while looking for a chill place to work remotely. I had no idea what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Kopibing serves Malaysian staple foods like kaya butter toast, coffee, nasi lemak, mee siam, mee goreng mamak, and local desserts. Today is my second time here, and I’ve tried a few different dishes. My favorite is their kaya butter toast.

Their kaya is different from most of the others that I have tried in the Bukit Bintang area. Most serve kaya that is coconut pandan flavor, but Kopibing’s kaya has a caramelized taste. The toast is sandwiched between a generous layer of the caramelized kaya and a thick serving of butter. It’s so delicious, I can’t resist ordering it every time I go.

Another favorite of mine is the nasi lemak with poached eggs. The coconut milk-infused rice is fluffy and flavorful, and the sambal is just right, not too spicy but still flavorful. It’s served with a variety of condiments, including ikan bilis, fried peanuts, fresh cucumber, and poached eggs. I also like to add on their signature fried chicken (ayam goreng berempah) to my nasi lemak. It’s the perfect combination of flavors.

Today, I tried their mee goreng mamak. It was a bit too spicy for me, but I think it would be perfect for people who like their food hot and spicy. It also had a more Malay-style flavor than mamak-style mee goreng, which is usually fried with peanut sauce gravy and some fritters.

In terms of drinks, I love their ‘Kopi O Kosong’ (black coffee without sugar). It’s served the old kopitiam style with a piece of cream crackers. It’s the perfect way to start your day or enjoy a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. And their barley lemon is a refreshing and hydrating drink after eating all that spicy food.

Another thing I love about Kopibing is the environment. It’s peaceful and quiet, with some Cantopop music in the background. It’s the perfect place to work and eat at the same time.

If you’re looking for a delicious and warm Malaysian meal, I highly recommend Kopibing. You won’t be disappointed. Cheers!

P.S. I especially love that I stumbled upon Kopibing by accident. It’s a reminder that the best things in life are often unexpected.
